Electrical and Computer Engineering is part of the vast area of Engineering Sciences and covers various technological fields that share a common scientific basis. The mission of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) is to provide high-quality education and produce world level research in the core areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering, energy systems, electronic and computer systems, automation and robotics, and telecommunication systems.
The insertion of the DEEC in the society, at national and international levels, is guaranteed by the involvement of professors and students in national institutes R&D activities. At a national level, these activities include the participation in projects and other actions in collaboration with the industry. Internationally, professors and students of the DEEC participate in R&D projects and cooperation networks.
The Institute for Systems Engineering and Computers at Coimbra (INESC Coimbra) is a non-profit R&D institute, affiliated with the University of Coimbra (UC), the Institute for Systems Engineering and Computers (INESC) and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL).
INESC Coimbra aims at contributing to the progress of scientific and technical knowledge, integrating competencies in several Engineering Sciences and in Management Science/Operations Research within a systems engineering approach, creatively combining theory and methodology, technical issues and human factors to tackle complex problems. INESC Coimbra’s research team is a strongly interdisciplinary group, its members being affiliated with several Universities and Polytechnic Institutes.
INESC Coimbra is financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under project grant UID/MULTI/00308/2013.
